A pâté is a paste made from liver, pork, game or mushrooms that's minced and mixed with butter and other flavourings before being cooked in a terrine or wrapped in pastry and cooked. It is also possible to use fish as the basis for pâté which can be combined with butter, soft cheese or soured cream.
