Ingredients:

1kg lamb (or beef), cubed
2 tbsp butter
2 onions, chopped
2 carrots sliced into rounds
1.2 red bell pepper, sliced into strips
salt and black pepper, to taste

1/2 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp cinnamon
60ml tomato purée
120ml water
2 tbsp dry red wine

Method:

Melt the butter in a pan then add the lamb and fry until well browned all over. Add the onions and carrots and fry for about 10 minutes, or until soft and lightly golden. Add the bell pepper slices, season with the spices and fry for 2 minutes more.

Meanwhile, whisk together the tomato purée, water and red wine until smooth then add to the lamb mixture. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer then cover and cook gently for 45 minutes. Take off the heat and serve on a bed of rice.
