This is the classic recipe for a basic Spanish sangria. An excellent drink for a warm summer day!

Ingredients:

750m bottle dry red wine (shiraz, rioja etc)
1 tbsp brown sugar
Juice of 1 large orange
Juice of 1 large lemon
Juice of 1 lime
1 large orange, thinly-sliced crosswise
1 large lemon, thinly-sliced crosswise
230ml soda water (or ginger ale)
2 peaches or nectarines, pitted and cut into chunks (optional)

Method:

In a large serving pitcher combine all the ingredients (apart from the soda water or ginger ale). Place in the refrigerator and store over night. Immediately before serving mix-in the soda water (for a traditional taste) or the ginger ale, if you prefer then ladle into cups or glasses containing ice, garnish with a sprig of mint and serve.

For an even fruitier version add an additional 120ml orange juice to the mixture and balance the alcohol with 30ml of gin or brandy.
