Köttbullar med Saltgurka, Gräddsås och Äppelströssel (Meatballs with pickles, cream sauce and apple sprinkles) a Classic Swedish recipe for a dish of beef meatballs served with pickles, cream and blackcurrant jelly sauce and diced apple sprinkles.

Ingredients:

400g mince (ground) beef
1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
1 egg
50ml sour cream
100ml mixed pickles, finely chopped
3 tbsp parsley, finely chopped
1 tsp salt
pinch of freshly-ground black pepper
100g butter

For the Sauce:
250ml Kelda classic cream sauce
1 tbsp blackcurrant jelly
1 tart eating apple, cored and finely diced

Method:

For the meatballs, mix together the minced beef, onion, egg, sour cream, pickles, parsley an seasonings in a bowl. Work the ingredients together until well combined then form into about 25 meatballs.

Melt the butter in a large frying pan, add the meatballs and fry over medium heat for about 6 minutes, or until nicely browned and cooked through.

In the meantime, heat the sauce in a pan and stir in the blackcurrant jelly.

Serve the meatballs topped with the sauce and accompanied by the diced apple and mashed potatoes.
