This is a British twist on a classic American hotdog recipe that makes a wonderful dish for Bonfire Night.

Ingredients:

8 good quality sausages
2 red bell peppers, de-seeded and sliced
2 chillies, finely chopped (or a pinch of chilli powder, depending on how hot you like things)
1 red onion, sliced
250ml passata
4 large hot dog rolls
2 tbsp olive oil
4 garlic cloves, sliced
2 tsp cumin seeds, crushed

Method:

Heat the oil in a pan over high heat then add the onion, bell pepper and chillies and cook for about 5 minutes, or until they begin to char. Reduce the heat, add the garlic and spices then cook for a further 2 minutes.

Pour in the passata, along with 150ml water then bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes more. In the meantime grill the sausages for about 10 minutes, or until cooked.

Split the rolls then fill with the sausages and the onion sauce. Serve hot.
