After making a traditional stromboli, I decided to see how easy the recipe was to adapt for the air fryer. This time I decided on a drier filling, without the traditional tomato sauce. Don’t get me wrong, I love the sauce but it does get messy and I wanted to take the leftovers into work. I also wanted to use ordinary cooked ham and cheese (a blend of mozarella and cheddar). Now, you can just as easily us salami, pepperoni or any sausage. I’ve also recently made this with air fryer baked ham. To keep the insides of the stromboli moist, I am using a little of my Air Fryer Tomato/Marinara Sauce.
Method:
Roll out your pizza dough into a rectangle of a size that will fit your air fryer when rolled. Load the pizza dough with pizza sauce, grated cheese, and either the ham slices or shredded ham.
Roll up your pizza into a stromboli (just like rolling up a Swiss [jelly] roll).
Add small slits throughout to help steam escape from the stromboli as you bake. Brush the top and sides with egg wash.
To ensure I can fit a larger stromboli in my air fryer I twist the stromboli round into a circle then carefully transfer to my air fryer basket.
Load into your air-fryer basket and cook for 12 minutes at 160°C (320°F).
Once cooked, slice and serve.
