Walnut Tart is a traditional English recipe for a classic tart made from a pastry shell filled with a blend of eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, golden syrup, butter and walnuts which is oven baked before serving. Ingredients:
3 eggs
1/2 tsp salt
150g granulated sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
180ml golden syrup (corn syrup)
120g chopped walnuts
60g butter
enough short crust pastry for a deep 22cm tart dish
Method:
Roll out he pastry and use to line a deep, 20cm tart dish then line with greaseproof paper and add baking beans. Transfer to an oven pre-heated to 180°C (350°F/Gas Mark 4) and bake for 10 minutes, or until the pastry has just set. Remove the baking beans and greaseproof paper then set the pastry aside.
Beat the eggs in a large bowl then add the sugar, salt and vanilla extract. Add the golden syrup and butter to a pan and heat until melted and liquid. Add to the egg mixture and stir to combine then add the nuts. Transfer the filling to the part-baked pastry then place in the oven and bake for about 40 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool before serving.
