Sweet Potato Dressing Balls is a traditional American recipe for a classic garnish or dressing for soups and salads (or the Thanksgiving turkey) made from cornbread stuffing mixed with butter and mashed sweet potatoes and moistened with water that are shaped into balls and oven baked before use. The full recipe is presented here and I hope you enjoy this classic American version of: Sweet Potato Dressing Balls.
Combine the stuffing mix with the melted butter in a large bowl. In a separate bowl beat together the mashed sweet potatoes and the allspice. Now add the sweet potato mix to the stuffing mix (reserve 2 tbsp for garnish) then blend in the water, mixing thoroughly, but lightly.
Shape the mixture into about eight balls and place in a greased casserole dish or an earthenware baking dish. Top each with about 1 tbsp of the reserved sweet potato mash then place a walnut half in the centre of each. Cover lightly with aluminium foil then transfer to an oven pre-heated to 160°C and bake for about 40 minutes, or until firm.
