Pesto Pastry Stars: A British recipe for a party snack of puff pastry topped with basil pesto and cheese and cut into star shapes, which makes an excellent nibble for a Christmas or New Year party.

Ingredients:

30g butter, softened
2 tbsp basil pesto
2 sheets of frozen all-butter puff pastry, thawed
75g Parmesan cheese, finely grated

Method:

Mix together the butter and pesto in a small bowl, until well combined.

Unroll the puff pastry on a lightly-floured work surface and evenly spread over the butter and pesto mixture. Sprinkle over the grated Parmesan cheese.

Use a biscuit (cookie) cutter (about 6cm diameter) to cut out stars or other seasonal shapes from the puff pastry sheets.

Transfer to lightly-greased baking trays then place in an oven pre-heated to 200°C and bake for about 10 minutes, or until nicely puffed up and golden brown.

Remove from the oven, transfer to a wire rack and allow to cool completely before serving.
