Oaty Crumbles is a traditional Scottish recipe for a classic sweet oaten biscuit (cookie) flavoured with treacle (molasses) that's prepared like a shortbread. The full recipe is presented here and I hope you enjoy this classic Scottish version of: Oaty Crumbles.
Combine the butter, sugar and treacle in a small pan and heat gently until the butter is melted and the mixture is liquid.
Sift together the flour and salt into a bowl, stir in the oats then pour over the butter and treacle mixture. Stir thoroughly to combine then press the resultant mixture into a greased 16cm (7 in) cake tin then sprinkle the oatmeal over the surface.
Transfer to an oven pre-heated to 170°C (350°F) and bake for about 20 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Mark into slices, set aside to cool then turn out of the tin and cut into slices before storing or serving.
