Ingredients:

250g yellow split peas, washed
1 medium onion, finely chopped
120ml vegetable oil
2 1/2 tsp minced garlic
1 dessert spoon (heaped) Berbere spice
1 tsp salt (or to taste)
1l water

Method:

Add the vegetable oil and Berbere spice to a large pot, stir in the onion and garlic the bring to a simmer and cook for about 8 minutes, or until lightly golden. Add the yellow split peas and water, return to a simmer then cook gently for about 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender.

Season to taste with salt and serve hot with Injeera.
