Ingredients:
250ml molasses (treacle)
200g brown sugar
1 tbsp vinegar
2 tsp butter
1 tsp baking soda
Method:
Combine the ingredients (except the baking soda) in a pan and gently bring to a boil. Continue boiling until the mixture reach the hard-ball stage (when a little of the mixture, when dropped into cold water, forms a solid ball).
Take off the heat and beat in the baking soda then pour into a buttered metal pan and set aside until cool enough to handle. At this stage pull and fold the taffy several times then cut into sticks and wrap these in waxed paper. Store in a jar until you are ready to serve.
