Chyk sauce is a classic Kazakh recipe for boiled sliced onions typically served as a topping for beshbarmak.

Ingredients:

500ml reserved beshbarmak stock
1 onion, sliced into rings
1 bay leaf, salt
Salt and freshly-ground black pepper, to taste

Method:

Place the 500ml reserved beshbarmak stock in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer than add the onion and bay leaf.

Season to taste with salt and black pepper then bring to a boil and cook for about 8 minutes, until the onions are tender.

Traditionally this is used as a topping for beshbarmak.
