Ingredients:
100g butter
1kg plain flour
50g caster sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 large egg
300ml condensed milk
1 tbsp fresh yeast
150ml warm water
sugar, to dust
Method:
Dissolve the yeast in the warm water and set aside for about 10 minutes.
Sift together the flour and salt into a bowl. Stir in the sugar then dice the butter, add to the flour and mix in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Warm the milk in a pan to blood temperature then take off the heat and beat in the egg. Stir the dissolved yeast into this mixture.
Slowly add the milk mixture into the flour mix. Add enough of the milk mixture to bring the flour mix together as a dough. Cover the bowl and set aside in a warm place to rise.
Divide the dough mixture into buns and arrange on a greased baking tray. Allow to rise for 20 minutes then transfer to an oven pre-heated to 200°C. Bake for 10 minutes then wet the tops of the buns with a little water and sprinkle with a little sugar. Return to the oven and bake for a further 10 minutes.
Allow to cool on wire racks and serve fresh as a tea-time snack.
