This is an excellent spiced apple juice drink suitable for both adults and children, alike. Just the thing to worm you up after you have seen the bonfire festivities.

Ingredients:

1 cinnamon stick (about 10cm long)
6 cloves
4 allspice berries
1l unsweetened apple juice
2 tbsp clear honey
30g seedless raisins
1 small dessert apple, peeled, cored and cut into 4 rings
2 tbsp lemon juice

Method:

Cut the cinnamon stick in half then tie in a muslin bag with the cloves and allspice berries. Now combine the apple juice, honey and raisins in a large saucepan. Add the bag of spices and set aside for 60 minutes to allow the raisins to soften.

Place the pan of apple juice over low heat, add the apple rings then bring to a simmer and cook gently for about 20 minutes (without allowing the mixture to boil), until the apple rings are just tender.

Take off the heat and remove the spice bag then stir in he lemon juice. Remove the apple rings with a slotted spoon and put in the base of four mugs or heat-proof glasses. Pour in the spiced apple juice and serve immediately.

For the adults, you can add add 100ml of Calvados or brandy to the recipe above (add with the lemon juice) if you desire something with a bit more kick.
