These are classic Amish-style soft dinner rolls.
Ingredients:
1.1kg flour (plus 150g to knead)
2 packages active yeast
100g sugar
1/4 tsp salt
250g butter, melted
250ml sour cream
200ml milk
Method:
Mix the dry ingredients together in a bowl. Mix the wet ingredients in a separate bowl then slowly add to the dry ingredients and mix in. Bring together to form a dough. Tip the dough onto a floured surface and knead thoroughly for 10 to 15 minutes. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth and set aside in a warm place to rise for about 40 minutes.
Tip the dough onto a floured surface and knock back. Knead once more then tear or cut into roll sized pieces and shape before placing on a lightly-greased baking tray. Brush the tops with a little meted butter, cover with a cloth and allow to rise in a warm place for 30 minutes before putting in an oven pre-heated to 170°C (325°F/Gas Mark 3) and baking for about 20 minutes. The rolls are done when they sound hollow if tapped on their bases.
