Amish Drop Cookies is a traditional American recipe (from the Amish [Pennsylvania Dutch] community) for a classic biscuit (cookie) of a lard-based dough with milk that's leavened with baking powder and baking soda before being dropped onto a baking tray by the tablespoon and baked. The full recipe is presented here and I hope you enjoy this classic American version of: Amish Drop Cookies.
Cream together the sugar and lard until light then add the eggs, nutmeg, vanilla and baking powder. Mix the baking soda with the milk and add to the egg mixture alternately with the flour. Mix thoroughly to combine then drop heaped tablespoons of the mixture onto a well greased baking sheet, leaving about 4cm between them.
Place in an oven pre-heated to 180°C (350°F/Gas Mark 4) and bake for about 10 minutes, or until the cookies are lightly browned. Allow to cool completely before storing in an air-tight jar.
