Originally this was a Canadian take on a wild fruit crumble. I've adapted it here for classic British wild autumnal fruit.

Ingredients:

35g oats
110g plain flour (about)
150g brown sugar
3/4 tsp cinnamon
3/4 tsp nutmeg
70g butter
6 crab apples, peeled, cored and chopped (or 1 cooking apple)
100g elderberries
150g blackberries
1 tangerine, finely chopped (with peel)
2 tbsp runny honey

Method:

Combine the fruit in the base of a baking dish and drizzle the honey over the top. Set aside as you prepare the topping.

Melt the butter and combine in a bowl with the oats, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add enough flour to make a crumbly but still slightly moist mix. Scatter on top of the fruit and place in an oven pre-heated to 180°C. Bake for about 30 minutes, or until the fruit is bubbling and the topping is golden.

Serve hot with custard, cream or ice cream.
