Shaah is spiced tea prepared in both Somalia and Djibouti that is typically served for breakfast. It is usually served with milk or powdered milk, but you can serve it black.

Ingredients:

1 tea bag (regular black tea)
4 cardamom seeds, crushed
1⁄2 tsp cloves, crushed
2 tbsp sugar
375ml boiling water
1 tbsp milk (or your favourite powdered milk)

Method:

Combine the tea bag, cardamom seeds, cloves and sugar in a large mug or a jug. Pour over the boiling water then stir well to combine and set aside to steep for 2 minutes.

Add the milk or milk powder to a second mug. Strain the tea from the first mug through a fine-meshed sieve into the mug containing the milk or milk powder. Stir to combine then serve.
