The sago caterpillar is the larval form of the sago palm weevil (also known as the red palm weevil) Rhynchophorus ferrugineus

Ingredients:

200g sago caterpillars
soy sauce for brushing
6 bamboo skewers, soaked in water

Method:

Thread the sago caterpillars onto the skewers, threading them on just beneath the black heads.

Place on a hot barbecue (more traditional) or under a grill, cooking them for about 2 minutes per side.

After this time, brush them with soy sauce then continue cooking for about 3 minutes per side.

Serve hot either with more soy sauce or satay sauce.
