This is another Bonfire Night tradition. Chestnuts can be wrapped in foil and baked in the bonfire (or in the embers) but are much better cooked in the oven. Just don't forget to pierce them to prevent bursting, regardless of which cooking method you will be using.

Ingredients:

1kg chestnuts

Method:

Either prick the chestnuts with a fork or cut off the tops with a knife (this prevents bursting). Arrange the chestnuts in a roasting tin then place in an oven pre-heated to 200°C and roast for about 30 minutes, or until the skins burst and the meat is tender.

Served as they are or sprinkle lightly with salt.
