Breads, Cakes and Pastries is a traditional American recipe for a classic Halloween snack of a pumpkin pie on a biscuit crumb that's sliced into bars. The full recipe is presented here and I hope you enjoy this classic American version of: Breads, Cakes and Pastries.
Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy then add the flour and nuts and blend with your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Reserve about 100g of this mixture for the toping then press the remaining into the base of a baking tin about 38 x 26cm in size. Place in an oven pre-heated to 180°C and bake for about 16 minutes, or until lightly browned.
Whilst the base is baking combine the pumpkin, condensed milk, treacle, eggs, pumpkin pie spice and vanilla extract in a bowl. Beat until smooth then pour over the baked pie base. Sprinkle the reserved crumb mixture over the top then return to the oven and bake for about 30 minutes more, or until the filling has set. Allow to cool in the pan then cut into fingers and store in the refrigerator until it's time to serve.
