Oven Scones is a traditional Scottish recipe for a classic flour, butter and milk dough that is leavened with baking powder and baking soda and which can contain currants that are cut into rounds and oven baked until well risen. These make an excellent tea-time treat for Hogmanay. The full recipe is presented here and I hope you enjoy this classic Scottish version of: Oven Scones.
Sift together the flour, sugar and baking powder into a bowl. Cut in the butter then mix together the baking soda and milk and stir into the flour mix (add the currants at this point, if using).
Divide the mixture into three pieces and roll these into rounds before dividing with a knife into four wedges. Transfer these to a greased baking tray then place in an oven pre-heated to 200°C and bake for about 18 minutes, or until nicely browned. Serve warm with plenty of butter.
