This is one of the classic dishes from the Jewish community of Sudan.

Ingredients:

1l plain yoghurt
1 tsp salt
4 tbsp peanut butter (dakwa)
4 tbsp flour
4 onions, chopped
120ml oil
2 tomatoes, chopped
1 tsp black pepper
2 garlic cloves crushed

Method:

Add the oil to a large pan and use to fry the onions and garlic until golden. Crush the onions in the oil then add the tomatoes. Cook until the tomatoes begin to break down before adding 250ml water. Bring to a simmer, cover and cook for 15 minutes.

Meanwhile mix together the peanut butter, flour, yoghurt, salt and black pepper together in a bowl. Slowly add to the yoghurt mix to the simmering tomato mixture and cook, stirring continuously, until the mixture comes to a boil.

Serve warm with aseeda or kissra.
