Ingredients:

200g butter
240g caster sugar
2 tbsp golden syrup
500g plain flour
1 tbsp baking powder
200g dark chocolate, finely chopped
120g glacé cherries, chopped
milk, to loosen

Method:

Cream together the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy. Work in the syrup then sift the flour and baking powder over the top and mix well to combine.

If the mixture is too stiff to work, add a little milk (the dough should be stiff and crumbly but workable). Now work in the chocolate and cherries until thoroughly combined.

Form the dough into walnut-sized bowls and arrange these on a lightly-greased baking tray. Transfer to an oven pre-heated to 210°C and bake for about 8 minutes, or until just starting to brown. Allow to cool on the baking tray for a few minutes then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving or storing.
