Halvah is a dessert or snack known throughout Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The Ottoman Turks brought the recipe to Greece, Albania and the Balkans. This is a classic Albanian version with flour, butter and almonds.
Ingredients:
600g plain flour
450g butter
150g almonds
1kg sugar
1 tbsp ground cinnamon
juice of 1 lemon

Combine the sugar, lemon juice and 1l water in a large pan. Cook gently until the sugar dissolves then bring to a boil. Cook for 1 minute and set aside to cool.
When the syrup mix is cold melt the butter in a pan over low heat then add the almonds and fry gently until lightly browned. Turn into a warmed bowl then add the flour and stir to combine. Finally add the syrup into the mix and stir until smooth then serve.
