Garlic Bacon Butties is a traditional British recipe for a classic snack of fried bacon and tomato chutney sandwiches rubbed with garlic that makes an excellent snack for Bonfire Night (November 5th). Ingredients:
6 rashers rindless back bacon
1 white country loaf
butter, for spreading
3 tbsp tomato chutney
1 large garlic clove, peeled and halved lengthways
2 tbsp water
Method:
Heat a frying pan, add the bacon and cook for about 3 minutes pre side, or until golden and crisp. Cut six thick slices from the bread and butter each on one side. Spread the chutney evenly over three of the bread slices an top each with two rashers of bacon.
Add the remaining slices of bread, butter side down, and press firmly to seal. Return the butties to the frying pan over medium heat and toast for about 3 minutes per side, or until golden. Remove from the pan, rub the top and bottom surfaces with the cut sides of the garlic. Halve the butties into triangles and serve.
