Method:

Clean and halve the aniseed toadstool mushrooms. Dip in the egg then dip in the breadcrumbs to coat. Dip in the egg once more then dip in the breadcrumbs once more, making certain they are well coated.

Heat the oil in a pan, add the breaded mushrooms and fry until golden brown all over and heated through. Drain the mushrooms on kitchen paper then mound on a warmed serving dish.

Garnish with fennel fronds and lemon slices then serve.
