Sift together the flour, spices and baking powder into a bowl.
In a separate bowl, mix together the melted butter and brown sugar until thoroughly combined. Work in the milk, treacle, vanilla extract and lemon juice.
Add the flour mixture to the liquid ingredients and mix well to combine. Cover with clingfilm (plastic wrap) and set aside to chill in the refrigerator for 60 minutes.
After this time, take the dough from the fridge, roll out to about 6mm thick and cut out into seasonal shapes (trees, snowmen, stars, reindeer, gingerbread men [anything that takes your fancy]).
Decorate as desired (use sprinkles and chocolate chips for eyes and currants for mouths and buttons).
Arrange on lightly-greased baking trays then transfer to an oven pre-heated to 170°C and bake for about 10 minutes, or until cooked through and just very lightly browned around the edges.
Allow to cool slightly and serve warm, or allow to cool and decorate before serving or storing.
