Anardana goli (also known as anardana churan) is a traditional Indian sweet (candy) that has been made long before the common use of sugar as a sweetener. The anardana powder represents dried and ground pomegranate seeds, which has a sweet and tart flavour. It is traditionally used as a digestif. They are also used as a cure for indigestion.

Ingredients:

100g (1 cup) anardana powder 1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp fennel seeds
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp black Salt
1/4 tsp cardamom powder
1 tbsp dry mango powder (amchur)
1 lemon juice
50g (1/4 cup) sugar
Powdered sugar or garam masala for dusting

Method:

Combine all the dry ingredients in a spice blender and coarsely grind them.

Turn into a bowl and add the lemon juice. Bring the mixture together then shape into small balls.

Roll the balls either in powdered sugar (modern version) or in garam masala (traditional version). Allow to air dry for a few hours then store in an air-tight jar.
