I really love this recipe, which lets you cook long-grain white rice in an air fryer. Flavour-wise, jasmine rice is my favourite. I have silicone inserts for my air fryer and I use this for all my wet cooking. You can also air-fry cakes in these. A non-stick solid cake tin would also work. Jasmine rice typically cooks quicker than basmati so I set my timer for 20 minutes. For basmati I would set to 25 minutes. For this recipe to work best, wash your rice and use boiling water. Again, rice is one of the things people say that you can’t cook in the air fryer. This is because air fryers due to their nature do not yield a sustained boil. However, if you have a lidded dish (and covering with foil is enough) you can get the water to boil.
Ingredients:
200g (1 cup) basmati rice
360ml (1½ cups) boiled water
Pinch of salt (optional)
Method:
Put the basmati rice in a mesh strainer and wash the under cold running warm water until the water runs clear. Tip the rice into an air-fryer cake tin or cake bucket.
Pre-heat you air-fryer to 175°C (360℉) for 3 minutes. Add the 360ml boiled water, cover the cake tin with aluminium foil and wrap it tightly around the rim (remember, you are making a sealed lid).
Place the cake tin in the Air Fryer Bucket. Set the timer to 30 minutes. After this time, take the cake tin out of the Air Fryer and remove the foil. Carefully fluff the rice with a fork and turn out into a warmed serving dish.
Serve immediately.
If you have leftover rice, don’t waste it… put it in the fridge or freezer and then you can re-heat in the air fryer. All you need is an air fryer insert (a silicone insert, or a solid cake tin both work), your rice and a little (½ to 1 tbsp) oil or cooking spray.
Pre-heat the Air Fryer to 160°C (320℉) for 3 minutes before adding the cake pan into the Air Fryer basket. Cook for 10 minutes if the rice was frozen, 8 minutes if the rice came from the refrigerator.
Drizzle a little olive oil over the rice then stir to coat the grains in the oil. Increase the temperature to 175°C (360℉) and Air Fry for another 5 minutes.
Stir once more and your rice is ready to serve
