Air frying really cooks chickens well, with succulent meat and dry and crispy skin. However, as you are not supposed to use fresh herbs and spices in an air fryer (due to the risk of burning) it gets hard to spice them. This dry rub is the answer to that. Though you can cook whole wings in an air fryer, I prefer separating the drumettes and wing tips at the joint as then I can better space them in my air fryer. This also makes them ideal finger food as a snack (fantastic with beer) or a starter (appetiser).
Ingredients:
500g (1 lb) chicken wings
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
½ tsp chilli powder
¾ tsp
Italian Seasoning
Method:
Wash your chicken wings then pat then dry.
Mix together the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, chilli powder and Italian seasoning in a large bowl. Add the wings and toss with the spice mix. Make sure that the dry rub gets on all the wings. There is no need to use any oil.
Pre-heat your Air fryer to 200C (400F) for about 4 minutes.
Arrange chicken wings in a single layer in your air-fryer basket. Air fry for about 16-20 minutes until crispy and well cooked. Turn the wings over with tongs half-way through cooking.
You will see chicken fat start to render and the skin will begin to crisps up.
If your wings are very meaty, then you may need a little more air-frying time.
