Ingredients:

8 slices of white bread
300ml milk
75ml double cream
50g caster sugar
3 eggs
50g butter
marmalade
brown sugar to decorate
grated nutmeg

Method:

Remove the crusts from each slice of bread then spread on one side with the butter and the marmalade before cutting each slice into four triangles. Place the bread triangles in an oven-proof dish overlapping one against the next and overlapping each line with the previous one.

Combine the milk, double cream, caster sugar and eggs in a bowl, beating them well to mix. Pour this mixture over the bred and scatter a little caster of the brown sugar over the top.

Grate a little nutmeg over the top then transfer the dish to an oven pre-heated to 170°C (325°F/Gas Mark 3) and bake for about 35 minutes, or until the top has browned lightly. Serve hot
